Baphomet Mantra: Meaning, Enn, Chant & How to Use It
If you are looking for a Baphomet mantra or enn to use in meditation or ritual, the short formula most commonly used is:
Matha tor una Baphomet enay.
I use this as a repetitive chant for attunement to Baphomet. The purpose is not simply to repeat unusual words, but to use rhythm, concentration and repetition to narrow the mind toward Baphomet until ordinary mental chatter begins to fall away.
The enn can be used on its own as a meditation, combined with Baphomet’s sigil, or incorporated into a more elaborate invocation or summoning ritual.
There is also a longer formula that I use in Baphomet work:
Ave Baphomet — Oli Omnium Hominium Pacis Abbas — Solve et Coagula.
I treat the shorter formula as the primary enn for repetitive chanting and the longer formula as a more ceremonial mantra or invocation. Both can be useful, but they work especially well at different stages of the ritual.
What Is the Baphomet Enn?
The Baphomet enn is:
Matha tor una Baphomet enay.
An enn is essentially a short vocal formula associated with a particular spirit. In practice, I use enns to establish attunement and deepen concentration before moving into invocation, communication or petition.
The advantage of a short formula like this is that it can be repeated for several minutes without requiring much conscious thought. At first, you are deliberately saying every word. After some repetition, however, the chant begins to flow automatically and the mind becomes less occupied with the act of speaking.
That is usually when the practice becomes useful.
Instead of thinking about the words themselves, attention can shift more fully toward Baphomet, the sigil, the atmosphere of the ritual and whatever impressions begin to arise.
If you want a broader explanation of how enns are used in magic, see What Is a Demonic Enn? Meaning, Origins & How to Use Enns. I also keep a Complete Demonic Enns List with formulas associated with other spirits.
What Is the Baphomet Mantra Used For?
The most obvious use is attunement.
When I work with a spirit, I want to gradually move away from ordinary consciousness and into a state where my attention is directed almost entirely toward that intelligence. Repeating the enn gives the mind one simple task and one spiritual target.
This makes it useful for meditation, trance, invocation and sigil work.
It can also serve as the opening phase of a longer ritual. Rather than immediately beginning with a petition or trying to force some dramatic manifestation, I prefer first establishing the proper state. Once concentration has deepened and the presence of the working begins to feel established, the ritual can move into prayer, invocation, scrying or whatever the objective requires.
How to Meditate With the Baphomet Enn
A simple Baphomet enn meditation does not require an elaborate altar.
Place an image or sigil of Baphomet in front of you and sit somewhere you will not be disturbed. Dim lighting is useful because it reduces distraction, and incense can help establish the atmosphere if you normally use it in your practice.
Spend a few minutes becoming still, then begin repeating:
Matha tor una Baphomet enay.
Use a steady rhythm. There is no need to rush, and there is no benefit in trying to chant as many repetitions as possible.
Keep your attention on Baphomet while you speak. You can look at the sigil, visualize the familiar image of Baphomet, or simply hold the presence and name of Baphomet in your mind.
Continue until the repetition starts to feel natural and your attention becomes less scattered. Once you notice a definite change in consciousness, stop chanting and remain silent for several minutes.
That silent period is important. The enn helps bring you into the proper state, but you should also give yourself space to receive impressions rather than filling the entire meditation with sound.
A Simple Baphomet Enn Practice
A straightforward working can be done like this:
- Place Baphomet’s sigil or image in front of you and remove obvious distractions.
- Relax your breathing and become physically still for several minutes.
- Begin chanting Matha tor una Baphomet enay at a steady pace.
- Keep your eyes gently focused on the sigil or image while allowing the chant to become increasingly automatic.
- Continue until you notice a clear change in concentration, atmosphere or state of mind.
- Stop chanting and remain silent.
- Observe any images, thoughts, sensations, emotional changes or intuitive impressions that arise.
- If you have a question or intention, introduce it only after the attunement feels established.
- Remain receptive for a few more minutes, then close the meditation deliberately.
I prefer this approach to mechanically counting repetitions. The purpose is not to reach a magical number but to use the enn until it has done what you need it to do.
Using the Baphomet Sigil With the Enn
The sigil and enn work naturally together.
The sigil gives the eyes a fixed point of concentration while the enn gives the voice and mind something to repeat. Both are directed toward the same spiritual intelligence, which makes it easier to maintain focus.
Place the sigil at eye level if possible and gaze at it without straining. Begin chanting the enn and keep returning your attention to the lines of the sigil whenever your mind wanders.
As trance deepens, you may notice that the sigil begins to look different. The lines may appear brighter, darker, less stable or more three-dimensional. This is common during prolonged visual concentration and can be used as part of the transition into a deeper ritual state.
There is no need to deliberately force visual effects. Concentration is more important than spectacle.
What Does Baphomet Attunement Feel Like?
There is no single correct experience.
One person may experience Baphomet primarily through imagery, another through changes in atmosphere, and another through intuitive thoughts or emotional impressions. Spirit contact does not always arrive as a dramatic vision.
During this kind of work, I pay attention to changes that feel distinct from the mental state I had before the ritual. This can include a sudden heaviness or intensity in the room, unusual stillness, spontaneous imagery, thoughts that seem to arrive unexpectedly, a sensation of presence, or a strong intuitive understanding that appears without much conscious reasoning.
Sometimes the most important part of the working becomes clear only afterward, especially through dreams or through an idea that continues returning over the following days.
Trying too hard to produce an experience usually gets in the way. The better approach is to perform the practice properly and observe what develops.
How Long Should You Chant the Baphomet Enn?
There is no fixed duration.
For a simple meditation, several minutes may be enough. For deeper ritual work, I continue until I notice that the chant has changed my state in a meaningful way.
This is more useful than deciding in advance that you must repeat the enn 50, 100 or 108 times.
If you are still distracted and mentally restless after two minutes, continue. If you enter a strong trance quickly, there is no reason to keep chanting just to satisfy a number.
The enn is a tool. Once it has brought you into the state required for the next phase of the ritual, you can move on.
How Do You Pronounce the Baphomet Enn?
I would not overcomplicate it.
Use a pronunciation that feels natural and repeat it consistently:
Matha tor una Baphomet enay.
The chant should flow smoothly enough that pronunciation does not keep interrupting your concentration.
For this type of work, rhythm and consistency matter more than stopping every few seconds to wonder whether one syllable could be pronounced differently.
Using the Enn for Invocation
The Baphomet enn can also be used as preparation for a more formal invocation.
I usually prefer to establish attunement before speaking a longer invocation or presenting a petition. Beginning with the enn allows the mind to settle into the current first, so the later part of the ritual does not feel like speaking words into an empty room.
Once the chant has deepened concentration, stop repeating it and shift into direct address. This is the point where you might speak a prayer, state the purpose of the working, ask for guidance or proceed into a more elaborate ceremonial invocation.
For a complete ritual approach, see my Baphomet Summoning and Invocation Ritual.
The Longer Baphomet Mantra
The other formula I use is:
Ave Baphomet — Oli Omnium Hominium Pacis Abbas — Solve et Coagula.
This has a more formal ceremonial character than the shorter enn.
I find the short Matha tor una Baphomet enay better suited to sustained repetition because it is simple and rhythmic. The longer formula works well once the working has already developed and I want to move from repetitive attunement into a more deliberate invocation.
The phrase Solve et Coagula is especially appropriate to Baphomet and expresses the principle of dissolution and reconstruction: breaking an existing form apart and reforming it into something different.
This relates naturally to Baphomet’s symbolism of opposing forces held together within a single figure, and it is one reason I associate Baphomet strongly with transformation.
You do not have to choose one formula and reject the other. In a longer working, I may begin with the shorter enn and later introduce the longer mantra as the ceremony develops.
Baphomet Enn and Prayer
An enn and a prayer are useful for different reasons.
The enn is repetitive and is mainly used to establish concentration, trance and attunement. A prayer allows you to express a more developed intention, whether you are asking for knowledge, transformation, power, assistance or guidance.
For that reason, they can work well together. I might spend several minutes chanting the enn, remain silent until I feel sufficiently attuned, and then introduce the actual prayer or petition.
If you want longer formulas directed toward particular objectives, see my 4 Powerful Baphomet Prayers for Wisdom, Power and Prosperity.
Can You Use the Baphomet Enn for Manifestation?
The enn itself is primarily a method of contact rather than a complete spell.
If you have a specific magical objective, establish attunement first and then introduce the objective through a petition or larger ritual.
Baphomet is particularly appropriate for work involving transformation, occult understanding, self-mastery, overcoming rigid limitations, integrating conflicting parts of the self and moving through periods where an old identity or structure needs to be dismantled and rebuilt.
This is where Baphomet’s connection with Solve et Coagula becomes particularly useful in practice. You are not simply asking for something external to appear; the work can also involve changing the structure through which you approach the problem.
Working With Baphomet Beyond Simple Meditation
Once you are comfortable with the enn, it can be incorporated into a much more elaborate ritual.
A developed Baphomet ceremony may involve the sigil, candles, incense, ceremonial tools, a dedicated altar, trance work, scrying, offerings, invocation and a written petition. The enn can be used near the beginning to establish the current before the ritual becomes more formal.
This is also where repeated practice becomes useful. If you work with the same enn, sigil and ritual atmosphere over time, the transition into the desired state often becomes easier because the entire combination begins to feel familiar.
For a more complete ceremonial approach, continue with my Baphomet Summoning and Invocation Ritual. If you want a more prayer-focused method, you can instead use one of my Baphomet Prayers.
Final Thoughts
The Baphomet enn I recommend for simple meditation and attunement is:
Matha tor una Baphomet enay.
Use it slowly and consistently while concentrating on Baphomet’s sigil or image. Allow the repetition to settle the mind and deepen the ritual state, then stop chanting and spend some time in silence rather than immediately ending the working.
The longer Ave Baphomet — Oli Omnium Hominium Pacis Abbas — Solve et Coagula formula can be introduced when you want a more formal and ceremonial invocation.
For most people beginning with Baphomet, however, I would keep the first practice simple: sigil, enn, repetition, silence and observation. Once that becomes familiar, you can build more elaborate ritual work around it.
From there, continue with my Baphomet Summoning Ritual, explore my Baphomet Prayers, or read What Is a Demonic Enn? if you want to understand the broader practice of using enns for spirit attunement.
