Vine: The Complete Demon Profile
Aliases: Vain, Vigne, Vinea, Viné, Royne
Vine is known as an Earl and also a King of Hell, commanded by Satan. He is known to be the trickiest, and deadliest demon. Vine is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Sealiah. Vine governs and commands 36 legions of demons and spirits. Vine is normally listed as the 45th spirit of the Goetia, sometimes he is numbered as the 46th.
Vine also appears in the following grimoires: the Lesser Key of Solomon, (including Thomas Rudd’s version), Johann Weyer’s Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Jacques Collin de Plancy’s Dictionnaire Infernal and Liber Officiorum Spirituum (as the Earl Royne).
Vine doesn’t appear in the Bible.
This demon is portrayed as a lion-headed man holding a snake in his hand and riding a black horse. Vine may be derived from or otherwise connected to the spirit “Royne” in the Liber Officiorum Spirituum, who is described only as an earl appearing like a lion-faced soldier (still riding a black horse and carrying a snake).
Royne has the power to build towers and houses. He can answer questions on treasures or secrets, and also has love magic. He can also destroy one’s enemies and consecrate objects. That is according to A Book of the Offices of Spirits: The Occult Virtue of Plants and Some Rare Magical Charms & Spells.
According to some sources, Vine may be asked to take another form, that of a powerful black-skinned man, wearing black clothes and carrying a curved golden walking stick.
The gods and spirits of ancient cultures of North Africa and the Middle East were often described as having a mix of animal and human features. The animalistic features and overall description and art that has survived can tell us things about the spirit, its powers and attributes.
Vine has obviously always been a proud warrior spirit, Vine has a lion’s head and he is pictured on a horse. Vine is a powerful ally to those who’re able to summon him. He is shown armed with a serpent. A serpent represents wisdom, the ability to change and heal (by turning poison into cure). Before Vine was demonized, Vine was a powerful patron of ancient warriors.
Powers and Abilities
He has the power to build towers, destroy walls, disturb seas, and furthermore answer questions on secrets, witches, and events past, present, and future.
According to Demons of Magic: Three Practical Rituals for Working With the 72 Demons by Gordon Winterfield, Vine has the ability to improve your work with all forms of magic and to make you aware of plans that have been made against you.
Vine has the power to break the will of one who works against you through other people. This is effective when your enemy has employed lawyers, for example.
Vine has the power to make a vicious former lover feel love for you again. This is not for reconciliation, it is to cause them confusion and weakness during a messy breakup or divorce.

How To Summon the Demon King Vine
Summoning a demon king or any spirit of the Goetia may seem dangerous. But if you approach the work and the spirit with respect you have little to fear from them.
You should start by cleaning your space, both by doing mundane chores and in ritual ways, by sprinkling a little holy water around or burning sage or preferably frankincense. Some like to perform the Lesser Ritual Banishing of the Pentagram or cast a magic circle.
Next it is helpful to enter a trance or meditative state, look at a copy of their sigil and chant their enn. Some like to use other rituals or props and trapping like black candles. You could place their sigil in a triangle of art, to the north and outside your magic circle, if you are cautious or worried.
It is a good idea to also be able to respectfully banish any spirit you summon with thanks. Show some gratitude and say when they helped you or your magic actually worked. Certainly do not deny your experiences on your path.
You could also simply pray to Vine in your own way. If you ask for some favor, you should offer something in return. That something does not have to be blood or your immortal soul. It is commonly believed that the more you bind a powerful spirit or Demon King to yourself and your service, the more you become bound to them and serving them. This does not have to be a bad thing, and it is only fair.
