Zagan: How to Summon The Wealth-Alchemy Demon

Zagan, the 61st spirit of the Ars Goetia, is a King and President renowned for his power to transmute, transform, and generate abundance.

His most cited abilities include the transformation of wine into water and vice versa, the conversion of metals into coins, and turning any object into its symbolic equivalent.

1. Why Work With Zagan

Beyond the literal alchemical feats, these powers manifest in a magician’s life as rapid acquisition of resources, and the ability to turn liabilities into assets.

Zagan is also a master of wit, wisdom, and subtlety. His transformations are not only physical but conceptual.

He can shift perceptions, turn a damaging reputation into one of honor, and reframe situations to your advantage. In business and personal dealings, this is the power to rewrite the terms of engagement in your favor.

Where Mammon and Clauneck draw wealth directly, Zagan often makes wealth possible by creating new opportunities out of overlooked or undervalued circumstances. This is why I call him when a situation feels stagnant and when existing tools, contacts, or resources must be altered into something valuable.

2. Planet of Demon Zagan

Zagan is aligned with Mercury, the planet of communication, trade, and swift movement, but with undertones of Jupiter for expansion and prosperity.

Mercury governs transactions, negotiations, and the transformation of ideas into tangible results, making it an ideal planetary sphere for a demon of alchemy and conversion.

Zagan’s power peaks during the hour of Mercury on a Wednesday, especially during a waxing Moon if your aim is wealth-building, or a full Moon for maximum manifestation.

Aligning your ritual with Mercury’s favorable aspects to Jupiter further amplifies abundance and luck.

3. Metal of Zaga

The metal associated with Zagan is quicksilver (mercury), though in practice you will use silver for ritual purposes due to safety and availability.

3.1. Symbolism of Silver in Relation to Zagan

Silver reflects light and adapts fluidly to its environment, qualities akin to Zagan’s transformative nature. Just as silver can be molded and shaped, Zagan’s influence molds your circumstances to suit your will.

3.2. How to Use Silver in Rituals for Zagan

Wear a silver ring or pendant engraved with Zagan’s sigil during the ritual and for the 7 days following.

Alternatively, or in addition to this, silver coins can also be placed upon his sigil in the Triangle of Manifestation and carried thereafter as a talisman for ongoing transformation.

4. Element of Zagan

Zagan’s element is Air, representing intellect, adaptability, and change. It holds the invisible currents that carry a transformation from one state to another. Zagan is not an earthly demon. His alchemy begins in the mental realm and then cascades into material reality.

Burning aromatic resins and herbs, such as frankincense and storax, provides the Air element’s bridge to Zagan. A feather placed upon his sigil can serve as an additional anchor to his mutable nature.

5. Astrological Correspondence

Zagan is often associated with Gemini, ruled by Mercury, and in some traditions linked also to Virgo for its precision and resource management.

Gemini enhances adaptability and communication, enabling Zagan to shift situations in your favor through persuasion, negotiation, and networking.

Meanwhile, Virgo brings order, refinement, and a focus on detail, which is important for ensuring that transformations are not chaotic but precise and beneficial.

So Mercury in Gemini or Virgo is prime for calling Zagan. Mercury-Jupiter trines are particularly favorable for financial and social transformations.

6. Offerings to Demon Zagan

Offerings that represent transformation, such as a coin submerged in wine that you then remove and dry are ideal. Fine wine, silver coins, or symbolic items you wish to “elevate” in value can all be placed before his sigil.

7. Attuning to Zagan’s Energy

Attuning to a demon’s energy is a lighter form of invocation. It is not a direct summoning where the demon is fully attentive to your request, as is the case with the rituals I do for myself and my clients.

But it is a way to assume some of the characteristics of the spirit, which might be useful in achieving something. Think of it as stepping into the demon’s current, aligning your mind and subtle body to their essence so their qualities begin to flow through you.

For Zagan, choose a Mercury hour on Wednesday. Place a silver coin and a glass of wine on the altar, flanked by yellow and green candles. Place his sigil within the space, on an altar, on a wall or any other dedicated and respectful place. Burn storax and frankincense, then begin to chant his enn:

“Anay on ca Secore Zagan tasa.”

As you chant, visualize the coin slowly turning into gold and the wine into clear water, then back again. This is the essence of Zagan’s current, the mastery of states and transitions, and you can work with it subtly through visualizations.

Feel the air shift around you, as if your very thoughts are becoming more fluid and adaptive as you practice this method.

8. Grand Invocation of Zagan for Wealth Transformation

This operation is designed to turn existing assets, situations, or opportunities into something of greater value. In other words, to make more from what you already have.

8.1. Best Timing for the Ritual

  • Day: Wednesday
  • Hour: Mercury
  • Moon: Waxing or Full
  • Optional: Mercury-Jupiter favorable aspect

8.2. Preparatory Purification

On the day of the rite, refrain from excessive speech and idle chatter. This keeps Mercury’s influence sharp. Purify yourself with a bath infused with mint and bay leaf, visualizing mental clarity and the washing away of wasteful tendencies.

8.3. Ritual Setup & Tools

  • Altar Cloth and Sigil: Yellow (Mercury) with green accents (growth), drawn or printed sigil.
  • Candles: Two yellow, two green, one white for transformation purity.
  • Incense: Storax, frankincense, and powdered bay leaf.
  • Offering: A silver coin in a small cup of wine.
  • Other Tools: Dagger or wand, parchment with Zagan’s sigil in green ink.

Place the Triangle of Manifestation in the east, sigil at its center, cup of wine and coin directly atop it.

8.4. Opening the Rite

  1. Perform a banishing rite to clear interference.
  2. Call the quarters, with special emphasis on the East (Air).
  3. Light the candles in a clockwise pattern, ending with the central white candle.

8.5. The Invocation Sequence

I. The Summons

Stand before the Triangle, dagger raised:

“By the speed of Mercury and the abundance of Jupiter, I call thee forth, Zagan, King and President of transformation. Come to my circle and turn the base into the precious, the stagnant into the flowing, the lacking into the abundant.”

Begin chanting his enn until the air thickens and the incense smoke forms visible currents.

II. The Pathworking

Close your eyes and envision a vast alchemical chamber. See Zagan there, sometimes as a griffin-winged bull, sometimes a refined man, placing raw metal into a crucible and pouring out gold. Approach and present your “symbolic asset” (the coin in wine) to him.

III. The Charge

Take the coin from the wine, dry it, and hold it over your heart:
“Zagan, infuse this token with the power to multiply all it represents. Let opportunities arise, let value increase, let the old be made new.”

Pass the coin through the incense smoke three times.

8.6. The Sealing

Place the charged coin in a small pouch with bay leaf and a drop of wine. Carry it for 21 days as a talisman. Thank Zagan, close the ritual by extinguishing candles counter-clockwise, and perform a brief banishing.

9. Relation and Symbiosis with Other Demons

Zagan works synergistically with all demons of wealth, or even those that aren’t explicitly connected with wealth, but might be helpful in your specific circumstances, such as Leraje. He is most commonly summoned alongside the following demons as part of a demonic stack:

  • Mammon (chief demon of wealth) – Direct wealth accumulation.
  • Clauneck – Attraction of resources and hidden treasure, can hasten the influence of other wealth demons, especially Mammon.
  • Orobas – Securing deals and protecting financial gains.
